What kind of insurance does Aflac offer?
Aflac is best known for supplemental insurance. Depending on the state, policy form and sales channel, its portfolio can include accident, cancer or specified-disease, critical illness, hospital indemnity, dental, vision, short-term disability, term life, whole life and final expense coverage.
These policies address narrower risks than major medical insurance. For example, an accident policy may pay scheduled benefits for covered injuries, while a critical illness policy may pay a benefit after a covered diagnosis. A hospital indemnity policy may pay according to covered admissions or hospital days. The policy—not the carrier’s brand name—determines the covered events, benefit schedule, exclusions, waiting periods and claim requirements.
James O’Neal, a licensed agent broker of O’Neal Insurance Group agency, can help you compare insurance companies and plans currently available in your ZIP code and state. The agent should provide the exact brochure, outline of coverage, and policy form before you apply.
Quick facts about Aflac
- Aflac supplemental insurance is separate from primary medical insurance.
- Cash-benefit language does not mean every claim results in the same payment; the policy schedule and covered event control.
- Individual and workplace Aflac policies may have different features, availability and underwriting companies.
- Product availability varies by state, so a national product page is not proof that a policy can be sold where you live.
- Aflac coverage is not Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D or Medicaid.

How Aflac compares with Medicare coverage
| Coverage option | How it works | Provider access | Prescription coverage | Possible additional benefits | Important considerations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original Medicare Parts A and B | Federal hospital and medical coverage | Providers accepting Medicare | No outpatient drug coverage by itself | No Aflac-style cash benefit | Does not generally cover all health expenses. |
| Medicare Advantage | Private alternative for receiving Parts A and B | Network and service-area rules depend on plan | Often included, but not always | May include plan-specific extras | Aflac is not presented here as the MA carrier. |
| Medicare Supplement | Helps pay certain Original Medicare cost sharing | Follows Original Medicare access rules | No | Standardized letter-plan benefits | Aflac supplemental health policies are not automatically Medigap. |
| Aflac hospital or accident policy | Limited supplemental insurance | Benefits usually depend on covered events rather than a medical network, subject to policy | No Part D coverage | Scheduled cash benefits | Does not replace Medicare or comprehensive health insurance. |
| Aflac cancer or critical illness policy | Pays according to a covered diagnosis or treatment schedule | Policy terms control | No Part D coverage | Diagnosis or treatment benefits | Exclusions, waiting periods and definitions require close review. |
Accident and hospital indemnity coverage
Accident insurance can help with expenses following a covered injury. A policy may list benefits for emergency treatment, imaging, fractures, follow-up care or other services. It will not necessarily pay for every accident-related cost, and benefit amounts are limited by the schedule.
Hospital indemnity insurance is also limited-benefit coverage. It may pay when a covered person is admitted to a hospital or receives covered hospital care. It is not a substitute for health insurance or Medicare. Consumers should compare the definition of a hospital, observation-status rules, pre-existing-condition limitations and benefit duration.
Cancer and critical illness coverage
Cancer and specified-disease policies may provide benefits for covered screening, diagnosis or treatment. Critical illness insurance generally applies to defined conditions such as a covered heart attack, stroke or other diagnosis. Similar-sounding medical events may not satisfy the policy definition.
Before applying, review waiting periods, exclusions, recurrence provisions, maximums, issue ages and whether the policy coordinates with other coverage. Avoid assuming that an advertised example will match a future claim.
Dental, vision and life insurance
Dental insurance can help pay for preventive, basic or major dental services according to the selected plan. Check waiting periods, annual maximums, deductibles, network discounts and treatment frequency limits. Dental coverage is not Part of Original Medicare.
Vision policies or riders may help with eye exams, lenses, frames or other covered services. Provider arrangements and frequency limits can differ.
Aflac’s life portfolio includes documented term, whole-life and final-expense options. Life insurance pays a death benefit under the policy and is not health insurance. Final expense coverage is generally designed for a smaller death benefit, but beneficiaries decide how insurance proceeds are used unless the policy or assignment provides otherwise.
Does Aflac offer Medicare Advantage or Part D?
Current primary sources reviewed for this page do not establish an Aflac-branded Medicare Advantage, standalone Medicare Part D, D-SNP or C-SNP product. Therefore, this page does not describe Aflac as a Medicare Advantage carrier.
A person with Medicare may still compare a separate Aflac supplemental policy when it is available, but it must not be confused with Medicare Supplement insurance unless the policy is specifically approved and labeled as Medicare Supplement. Hospital indemnity, cancer, critical illness, dental and life insurance are not Parts A, B, C or D.
Extra Help, Medicaid and Special Needs Plans
Extra Help—also called the Low-Income Subsidy—is a federal program that may help eligible people with Medicare Part D expenses. Medicaid and Medicare Savings Programs are government-administered programs. They are not Aflac benefits.
A D-SNP or C-SNP is a specialized Medicare Advantage plan. Because this page does not establish Aflac as an SNP carrier, consumers seeking these plans should compare current Medicare-approved organizations in their county. Eligibility is never automatic.
Part B givebacks and flex cards
This research does not establish an Aflac Medicare Advantage Part B premium-reduction or flex-card benefit. Do not use those phrases to market Aflac’s supplemental policies. Aflac cash benefits are governed by the supplemental policy and should not be described as a Medicare “giveback.”
Part B premium reductions, flex cards, and other supplemental benefits are not included with every Medicare Advantage plan. Availability, eligibility, benefit amounts, approved expenses, and participating locations vary by plan and service area.
Aflac coverage and veterans
VA health care, TRICARE and Medicare are separate from Aflac supplemental insurance. An Aflac policy does not replace VA benefits, enroll someone in VA care or change military-benefit eligibility.
Veterans should check how a supplemental policy defines covered care and whether its benefits can apply to services received through VA or non-VA providers. Questions affecting VA or TRICARE benefits should be confirmed with those programs.
How a licensed agent can help
A licensed agent can help you:
- Identify which Aflac products are approved in your state

- Review premiums, benefit schedules, exclusions and waiting periods
- Explain whether a policy uses a provider network
- Distinguish supplemental coverage from Medicare and major medical insurance
- Compare other carriers when an Aflac product is unavailable
- Prepare an application after you choose a policy
An agent explains the contract but does not decide claims or government-program eligibility.

Frequently asked questions
What products does Aflac offer?
Aflac offers supplemental health, dental, disability and life products. The exact portfolio includes accident, cancer, critical illness, hospital, dental, vision, life and final-expense options in applicable markets.
Is Aflac available in every state?
Aflac operates across many states, but its official disclosures say products may not be available everywhere and may vary under state law. Verify the exact product and underwriting company.
Is Aflac Medicare Advantage insurance?
No Aflac-branded Medicare Advantage product was established by the current primary sources used for this page. Aflac is presented here as supplemental insurance.
Is Aflac hospital insurance the same as Medicare Supplement?
No. Hospital indemnity is limited supplemental coverage. Medicare Supplement is a specifically regulated policy designed to help with certain Original Medicare cost sharing.
Does Aflac pay every claim directly to the policyholder?
Payment direction and assignment depend on the policy and claim. Benefits are paid only when policy conditions are satisfied.
Does Aflac include a Part B giveback or Medicare flex card?
This research does not establish those Medicare Advantage benefits for Aflac. Do not confuse supplemental-policy cash benefits with a Part B premium reduction.
Can a veteran buy Aflac coverage and keep VA health care?
Potentially, if the Aflac product is available and the applicant qualifies. The policy and VA system remain separate, so review coordination carefully.
Does Aflac offer dental insurance?
Yes, Aflac documents dental products, but plan designs, networks, waiting periods and state availability vary.
Can an O’Neal Insurance Group agent help me apply?
An agent may help only when properly licensed and appointed for the product. If not, the agency can discuss other authorized options.
Is there a cost to request a consultation?
O’Neal Insurance Group offers a no-cost consultation, and you are not required to purchase a policy.
