Medicare agent Ocean Springs, Mississippi residents can call

On the Gulf Coast, plan networks tend to be organised around a small number of hospital systems, which is why the first question for any Medicare agent Ocean Springs households call is a network question rather than a price one. Checking which system your primary care doctor and specialists admit to is usually the fastest way to narrow the list.

As a Medicare agent Ocean Springs and the wider Coast rely on, O’Neal Insurance Group works with people across Ocean Springs, Biloxi, Gulfport, Pascagoula and Moss Point. Guidance is free, there is no obligation, and you can meet by phone or online screen sharing rather than travelling to an office. Call (228) 641-2323 to start.

Your county decides what is available

Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county, not statewide. For this area that usually means Jackson and Harrison counties. Your permanent address determines which plans you may enroll in, so that is the first thing to confirm — not the premium.

Check your hospitals and doctors first

Around Ocean Springs, care is concentrated in a handful of systems, including Singing River Health System, Memorial Hospital at Gulfport and Memorial Hospital Biloxi, which changed hands and changed name in January 2025. Participation changes from year to year and differs between plans from the same insurer, so verify your own doctors and preferred hospital directly with the plan and with the provider office before enrolling. A plan can be excellent on paper and still be the wrong plan if your cardiologist is out of network.

What to have ready

  • Your Medicare number and your Part A and Part B start dates.
  • Your permanent ZIP code and county.
  • Every doctor and specialist you want to keep.
  • Every prescription, with exact dosage and how often you take it.
  • Any Medicaid, Extra Help, VA or employer coverage you already have.

Enrollment periods that apply

Most people can make changes during the Annual Enrollment Period each autumn, with changes effective 1 January. People already in a Medicare Advantage plan have a further window early in the year to switch or return to Original Medicare. Separate Special Enrollment Periods may apply if you move, lose other coverage, or gain or lose Medicaid. Moving to or from Ocean Springs is itself a qualifying event worth asking about.

Costs beyond the premium

A zero-dollar premium does not mean zero cost. Compare the annual out-of-pocket maximum, specialist and hospital copays, and how each of your prescriptions is tiered on that plan’s formulary. For many people the drug tiers, not the premium, are what separates a good plan from an expensive one.

Help that does not cost anything

If you travel for part of the year, or receive care across the state line in Alabama, confirm how each plan treats out-of-area care before enrolling.

You can also get free, unbiased counselling from your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), or compare every plan yourself at Medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE. We do not offer every plan available in your area, and you are always free to review all of your options.

What a Medicare agent Ocean Springs residents can call actually does

The work is narrower and more useful than most people expect. A Medicare agent Ocean Springs households deal with does four things: confirms which plans your county and ZIP code actually allow, prices your exact prescription list across each of them, checks your own doctors and hospital by name against those networks, then handles the application and stays reachable afterwards.

It is not a sales presentation. Nothing has to be decided on a first call, and the comparison costs nothing whether you enrol or not.

On the Coast the plan count is smaller than in a big metro, which makes the exercise quicker — and makes the network question more decisive, because there are fewer alternatives if your specialist is outside a plan.

What happens at your appointment

Appointments run twenty to forty minutes, by phone or screen share, and family members are welcome on the line.

You describe the situation. Doctors, prescriptions, whether you travel, what you can afford, and what has gone wrong before. Fifteen minutes, no forms.

We narrow the field. Your drug list is priced across every plan available in your county, and each provider is checked individually rather than by hospital system.

You see two or three real options. Written down, with the trade-offs, including the case for keeping what you already have.

You decide in your own time. If you enrol, we handle the paperwork and stay your contact for claims, billing problems and next autumn’s review.

Where a Medicare agent Ocean Springs covers: Jackson and Harrison counties

The office is at 1009 Byrd Dr in Ocean Springs, and the service area runs along the Coast. We work with people in Ocean Springs, Gautier, Vancleave, St Martin, Pascagoula and Moss Point across Jackson County, and in Biloxi, D’Iberville and Gulfport across Harrison County.

The county line matters. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county rather than statewide, so a plan sold in Jackson County may not be offered in Harrison, and the network can differ even where the plan name is the same. A move across the bay is a qualifying event in its own right, and worth a call before you assume coverage follows you.

Care here concentrates in a few systems — Singing River Health System, Memorial Hospital at Gulfport and Memorial Hospital Biloxi among them. Participation changes from year to year and differs between plans from the same insurer. Any Medicare agent Ocean Springs residents rely on should be checking your cardiologist by name, not the hospital’s sign.

Coast questions a Medicare agent Ocean Springs hears most

Retired military and TRICARE For Life. With Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, this comes up constantly. TRICARE For Life is Medicare-wraparound coverage for TRICARE-eligible people who have both Medicare Part A and Part B, and you must keep paying the Part B premium to hold it. Medicare pays first and TRICARE pays the remainder for covered services. Dropping Part B to save money is the mistake to avoid here, and it is worth talking through before you change anything.

Mississippi has no birthday rule. Some states give Medigap policyholders an annual window to switch carriers without health questions. Mississippi is not one of them, which makes your initial six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period considerably more important than it is in Nevada or Illinois. Our Mississippi Medicare page covers the state picture.

Travel and out-of-area care. If you spend part of the year elsewhere, or use providers across the state line in Alabama, ask how each plan treats out-of-area and emergency care before enrolling. Medicare Supplement policies travel; most Medicare Advantage networks do not.

What a Medicare agent Ocean Springs costs you: nothing

Plan premiums are set by the insurer and filed with regulators. They are identical whether you enrol through this office, through the carrier’s national line, or by yourself at Medicare.gov. There is no broker fee and no cheaper version for going it alone.

We are paid a commission by the insurer when someone enrols, at rates set by federal rules rather than by carriers competing for a recommendation. If the plan you already hold is the right one, we earn nothing by telling you so — and we will still tell you.

What we cannot do

We do not offer every plan available in your area. We represent multiple organisations offering products in Jackson and Harrison counties, and you are always free to review all of your options.

We cannot determine Medicaid eligibility — only the Mississippi Division of Medicaid can. We do not give medical, tax or legal advice, and we cannot reverse a coverage decision a plan has already made. Where a question belongs with a government office, we will say so and hand you the number.

Who owns the hospitals on this stretch of coast

Hospital ownership on the coast has changed more in the last five years than most people realise, and it is the first thing a Medicare agent Ocean Springs households trust should have straight, and directories have not kept up. Since network participation follows the current owner, it is worth setting the record straight.

Singing River Health System is still owned by Jackson County. In 2023 the Board of Supervisors selected a Louisiana buyer through a formal process, and in October 2023 both sides terminated negotiations without a deal. No sale followed. The system continues to appear in county financial reporting as a component unit of Jackson County, and it operates Ocean Springs Hospital, the Pascagoula hospital, and Singing River Gulfport.

That third one trips people up. Singing River bought the Gulfport hospital from HCA in October 2020 and renamed it. If you see Garden Park Medical Center on an old plan directory or a search result, that is the same building under a name it has not used for years.

Singing River also has a strategic partnership with Ochsner Health. It is a clinical partnership rather than an acquisition, and the county still owns the system. A Medicare agent Ocean Springs residents call should be able to explain that distinction, because co-branded signage leads people to assume a change of ownership that has not happened.

Across the county line, Memorial Health System is jointly owned by Harrison County and the City of Gulfport. It runs three hospitals — Gulfport, Biloxi and Stone County — with 481 licensed beds between them and a state-designated Level II trauma centre. Its Biloxi hospital was Merit Health Biloxi until Memorial completed the acquisition on 31 January 2025. Community Health Systems, the for-profit company that owned it, has now left the coast entirely.

Net effect: the coast a Medicare agent Ocean Springs covers is served almost entirely by two county-connected non-profit systems. That is unusual, and it tends to make network questions simpler here than in a market with several competing for-profit chains. It does not make them automatic, and any Medicare agent Ocean Springs beneficiaries work with should still check your specific physicians against each plan.

Two counties, two different plan markets

CMS enrollment data for April 2026 puts Jackson County at 31,363 Medicare beneficiaries with about 51.3 percent in a private Medicare plan, and Harrison County at 47,287 with about 49.7 percent. Both sit close to the national figure of 51.2 percent and both run well above the Mississippi average of roughly 45 percent.

This is one of the more competitive Medicare Advantage markets in the state, which is a large part of what a Medicare agent Ocean Springs residents call is there to sort through. More competition means more plans to sort through and more year-to-year change in what those plans cover, which is the practical argument for reviewing annually rather than letting a plan roll over.

It also means the county line matters. Plans are approved county by county, so an Ocean Springs address in Jackson County and a Biloxi address in Harrison County can see different menus even though the drive is twenty minutes. If you are moving across that line, it is a permitted reason to change plans outside the usual windows.

What Mississippi does not give you

Mississippi has no Medicare Supplement birthday rule, and every Medicare agent Ocean Springs beneficiaries speak to should say so plainly. Several states let you switch policies each year without health questions; this is not one of them. Outside your one-time six-month Medigap open enrollment at 65 and a short federal list of guaranteed-issue situations, an application here is medically underwritten and can be declined.

Two federal trial rights are the exception, and both run out quietly. If you joined a Medicare Advantage plan when you first became eligible at 65, or you dropped a Medigap policy to try Advantage for the first time, you can return to a Medicare Supplement without health questions provided you act within twelve months and apply no more than 63 days after the Advantage coverage ends. Each is available once in a lifetime. Anyone weighing that decision should raise it with a Medicare agent Ocean Springs offices can put in front of them well before the anniversary, not after.

Mississippi has also not expanded Medicaid, and expansion bills failed again in the 2026 legislative session. For Medicare beneficiaries that raises the importance of the Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help, which pay Part B premiums and reduce prescription costs under set income and asset limits. Both are significantly underclaimed, and the asset test surprises people in both directions, so it is worth asking rather than assuming.
