This page explains how Bankers Fidelity insurance plans work, what to check before you enroll, and how Bankers Fidelity insurance plans compare with everything else available in your county. We are an independent agency, not the carrier.

Understanding Bankers Fidelity insurance plans

Bankers Fidelity has served the individual and senior insurance market for decades. Its current product lineup includes Medicare Supplement, level-benefit whole life, short-term care, lump-sum cancer and hospital indemnity coverage.

Policies may be issued by Bankers Fidelity Life Insurance Company, Bankers Fidelity Assurance Company or Atlantic Capital Life Assurance Company. The issuing company can change by state and product. That legal name matters because it identifies the company responsible for the policy.

Bankers Fidelity says it is not licensed to sell any products in California, Connecticut, New York or Vermont. Other products have additional state exclusions. A licensed O'Neal Insurance Group agent can help you compare insurance companies and policies currently authorized in your state, but appointment with the correct underwriting company must be verified.

Useful Bankers Fidelity facts

  • Medicare Supplement is designed to work with Original Medicare.
  • Hospital indemnity, cancer and short-term care policies are limited supplemental coverage, not Medigap.
  • Level-benefit whole life is life insurance, not health insurance.
  • State approval differs by product and underwriting entity.
  • The policy form and outline of coverage control—not a general website summary.

The current carrier disclosure says Medicare Supplement is unavailable in Alaska, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin. Because the interactive map and disclosure can change, verify rather than deriving an “available” list from the exclusions.

Medicare Supplement coverage

Diagram showing Part A and Part B as Original Medicare, then the two routes: keeping Original Medicare with a Part D drug plan and optional Medigap, or taking a Medicare Advantage Part C plan that replaces A and B.
The four parts of Medicare and the two routes

Medicare Supplement—also called Medigap—helps pay certain deductibles, copayments or coinsurance left by Original Medicare. Standardized letter plans with the same letter generally cover the same core benefits, but premiums, underwriting companies, household discounts and administrative service can differ.

A Medigap policy does not replace Original Medicare. Medicare remains primary, and the policy supplements eligible Medicare-approved expenses. Medigap generally does not include outpatient prescription drug coverage, so a standalone Part D plan may be needed.

The strongest enrollment protections often occur during the applicant's Medigap open-enrollment period or another guaranteed-issue right. Outside protected periods, medical underwriting may be permitted depending on state law. An agent can explain the application process but cannot guarantee acceptance.

Hospital indemnity and short-term care

Bankers Fidelity's hospital indemnity product pays according to a benefit schedule for covered hospital events. The carrier expressly notes in its product materials that hospital indemnity is not a substitute for Medicare Supplement. Observation status, admission definitions, exclusions and benefit days matter.

Short-term care coverage addresses specified care needs for a limited period after a covered illness or injury. It should not be described as comprehensive long-term care insurance. Compare elimination periods, covered settings, benefit periods and optional riders.

Cancer and whole-life coverage

Lump-sum cancer insurance may pay a defined benefit following a covered cancer diagnosis. The policy determines which diagnoses qualify, whether a waiting period applies and what exclusions exist. It is not comprehensive cancer treatment coverage.

Level-benefit whole life is life insurance intended to provide a death benefit under the policy. It is separate from Medicare and health insurance. Review issue ages, health questions, premium guarantees, cash value, riders and any graded or modified benefit provisions.

Medicare Advantage, Part D and Special Needs Plans

Current carrier sources reviewed here do not establish Bankers Fidelity as a Medicare Advantage, standalone Part D, D-SNP, C-SNP or I-SNP carrier. Do not add HMO, PPO, flex-card or Part B giveback marketing to this page as though those were Bankers Fidelity products.

A Bankers Fidelity Medigap policy may be paired with eligible Original Medicare arrangements and a separate PDP, but a person generally cannot use Medigap to pay Medicare Advantage cost sharing. Consumers should understand which Medicare path they are choosing.

Medicaid, Extra Help and Medicare Savings Programs

2026 Medicare costs: Part A premium free with 40 quarters and a $1,736 deductible per benefit period, Part B at $202.90 a month with a $283 deductible, and Part D capped at $2,100 a year with a maximum $615 deductible.
What Medicare costs in 2026

Medicaid, Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help are government assistance programs, not Bankers Fidelity policy benefits. Extra Help and Low-Income Subsidy are the same federal Part D assistance program.

An agent can explain how confirmed government assistance may affect coverage decisions, but the state Medicaid agency or Social Security Administration determines eligibility.

Part B givebacks and flex cards

This research does not establish a Bankers Fidelity Medicare Advantage Part B premium reduction or flex-card benefit. A hospital indemnity or cancer payment is not a Part B giveback and must not be advertised as one.

Part B premium reductions, flex cards, and other supplemental benefits are not included with every Medicare Advantage plan. Availability, eligibility, benefit amounts, approved expenses, and participating locations vary by plan and service area.

Guidance for veterans

VA health care, TRICARE, Medicare and Bankers Fidelity policies are separate. Medigap works with Original Medicare, not directly as a supplement to VA care. A limited-benefit policy may pay only when its definitions are met.

Veterans should confirm how Medicare, VA providers, non-VA care, prescriptions and emergencies will be handled. People with TRICARE for Life should ask TRICARE before buying coverage that could duplicate existing benefits.

How a licensed agent narrows Bankers Fidelity insurance plans

A licensed agent can help you:

  • Verify whether the product is approved in your state
  • Identify the underwriting company and policy form
  • Compare Medigap letter plans and premiums
  • Distinguish hospital indemnity from Medicare Supplement
  • Review cancer, short-term care and whole-life definitions
  • Discuss prescription coverage separately
  • Explain underwriting and guaranteed-issue rules
  • Submit an application after you choose

The agent cannot guarantee policy issuance or a future claim.

How to compare Bankers Fidelity insurance plans against the alternatives

No carrier is the right answer for everybody, and that includes Bankers Fidelity insurance plans. What decides it is your own doctors, your own prescriptions and how you prefer to pay, in that order.

Start with your providers. Check every physician you want to keep against the plan directory, and confirm the medical group as well as the individual name. That single step rules Bankers Fidelity insurance plans in or out faster than any brochure will.

Then price your prescriptions. Two plans with an identical premium can differ by thousands of dollars a year once your real drug list is run against each formulary. Ask specifically about tiers, step therapy and prior authorization.

Then look at the ceiling, not the premium. Every Medicare Advantage plan carries an annual out-of-pocket maximum; Original Medicare on its own does not. That ceiling is the real protection, and it varies by thousands of dollars between plans.

Commissions are set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and are identical across carriers for the same product line. An independent agent comparing Bankers Fidelity insurance plans with everything else available in your county therefore has no financial reason to favor one over another.

What 2026 changes for Bankers Fidelity insurance plans

Two federal rules apply to every Part D policy this year, Bankers Fidelity insurance plans included, whether standalone or bundled inside a Medicare Advantage plan. No plan may charge a drug deductible above $615, and once you have spent $2,100 out of pocket on covered drugs your cost for the rest of the calendar year drops to zero.

The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread that $2,100 across monthly installments instead of facing a large bill in January. It is worth asking about if your medications are expensive early in the year.

What still changes annually is the detail: networks, formularies, copays and supplemental benefits. The Annual Notice of Change your carrier sends by September 30 is where those changes are disclosed, and it is the document to read before deciding whether to keep Bankers Fidelity insurance plans for another year.

Enrollment windows that apply to Bankers Fidelity insurance plans

Calendar showing the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period from 15 October to 7 December, Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment and General Enrollment from 1 January to 31 March, and the seven-month Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday.
The four Medicare enrollment windows

The windows below govern Bankers Fidelity insurance plans exactly as they govern every other Medicare Advantage and Part D plan. They are federal, not carrier-specific, and no salesperson can extend one for you.

Initial Enrollment Period. Seven months centred on the month you turn 65 — the three months before, the birthday month itself, and the three months after. Part B and Part D late penalties are permanent, so this is the window that costs money to miss.

Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7. Open to everyone on Medicare. Whatever you choose takes effect on January 1.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, January 1 to March 31. One change only, and only if you are already enrolled in an Advantage plan.

Special Enrollment Periods. Moving out of a plan’s service area, losing employer coverage, entering or leaving a nursing home, or gaining or losing Medicaid each open a window outside the normal calendar.

Who actually underwrites Bankers Fidelity insurance plans

The brand sits on top of three separate legal companies, all domiciled in Georgia and all part of Atlantic American Corporation: Bankers Fidelity Life Insurance Company (NAIC 61239), Bankers Fidelity Assurance Company (NAIC 71919) and Atlantic Capital Life Assurance Company. Which one issues your policy depends on your state, so the company named on the application may not be the one on the brochure. Check the form before you sign.

On financial strength, AM Best affirmed a rating of A- (Excellent) in April 2026. Ratings move, and the Bankers Fidelity insurance plans you are comparing are long-horizon products, so look the current rating up yourself at ambest.com rather than trusting any date-stamped claim, including this one.
