Insurance Company of North America (INA): What Consumers Should Know insurance guidance

Insurance Company of North America (INA): What Consumers Should Know

Insurance Company of North America—often shortened to INA—is a real U.S. insurance company within the Chubb group. It is not, however, a verified 2026 Medicare Advantage, Part D or Medicare Supplement carrier. O'Neal Insurance Group created this guide to help consumers identify the correct company before comparing any insurance proposal.

Insurance names can be surprisingly similar. Insurance Company of North America, Indemnity Insurance Company of North America and Combined Insurance Company of America are not interchangeable names. They may share a corporate family or history, but each legal entity can have a different NAIC number, license, product authority and policy obligation.

The entity verified for this page is Insurance Company of North America, NAIC 22713, domiciled in Pennsylvania and associated with the Chubb Limited group. New York's official company directory classifies it as a property-and-casualty company and lists authorized lines that include accident and health and multiple property-and-casualty categories in that jurisdiction. A license to write a broad line of insurance does not prove that a specific product is being sold to individuals in every state.

Before requesting a quote, look for the full underwriting company name on the proposal, application, outline or policy form. Then confirm the product, state approval and agent appointment. “INA” by itself is not enough information to make a safe coverage decision.

How INA relates to Chubb

Chubb's official history traces Insurance Company of North America to Philadelphia in 1792. INA later became part of Cigna and was acquired by ACE Limited in 1999. ACE acquired the former Chubb Corporation in 2016 and adopted the Chubb name for the combined organization.

Today, Chubb is a marketing name used for a group of insurance subsidiaries. A Chubb website, brochure or producer relationship does not mean every Chubb company underwrites every product. The policy's declarations page and forms identify the company that actually promises to pay covered claims.

This distinction matters because corporate history can outlive a retail product name. Someone may remember an old INA policy or see INA in a legal disclosure, while a current offering is marketed as Chubb. The correct response is to verify the current document—not to assume that an older product, policy form or distribution arrangement remains open for new business.

What products are verified for INA?

Official public records support INA's identity as a Chubb property-and-casualty insurer with certain accident-and-health authority. Chubb's U.S. organization offers a broad range of personal and commercial coverage through various affiliates, including home, auto, valuable articles, liability, cyber, accident, supplemental health and business insurance.

That broad Chubb portfolio should not be copied onto INA's product list. To describe a product as issued by Insurance Company of North America, the current proposal or approved form should specifically name INA NAIC 22713 as the underwriting company. Product availability can depend on the state, applicant, risk, distribution channel and underwriting rules.

INA is not a verified Medicare carrier

Medicare Advantage and Part D plans require contracts with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Plans have contract numbers, service areas, approved benefit packages and annual marketing rules. Medicare Supplement policies are regulated by states and issued under state-approved forms.

The sources reviewed for this page do not show Insurance Company of North America NAIC 22713 as a 2026 Medicare Advantage, prescription drug or Medicare Supplement issuer. Therefore, an INA page should not discuss INA HMO or PPO networks, D-SNP eligibility, flex cards, Part B premium reductions, formularies or Medicare enrollment as though INA offers those products.

O'Neal Insurance Group can still help a Medicare beneficiary compare carriers that are confirmed for the person's ZIP code, county and eligibility. That Medicare conversation is separate from any INA or Chubb property, casualty or supplemental policy discussion.

Medicare basics when you are comparing other carriers

Original Medicare includes Part A for hospital coverage and Part B for medical coverage. A beneficiary can remain with Original Medicare and consider a separate Part D prescription drug plan and, if eligible, a Medicare Supplement policy. Another route is Medicare Advantage, also called Part C, offered by Medicare-approved private plans in specific service areas.

Medicare Advantage plans may use HMO, HMO-POS or PPO networks. Some Special Needs Plans are designed for people with Medicare and Medicaid, qualifying chronic conditions or institutional levels of care. Availability and eligibility must be confirmed for the exact plan and county. None of these general Medicare categories should be labeled an INA product based on current evidence.

Extra Help and the Low-Income Subsidy are two names for the same federal Part D assistance program. Medicare Savings Programs are state-administered programs that may help eligible people with Medicare costs. An insurance company or agent can explain resources but does not decide eligibility.

Avoiding name confusion on an insurance document

Use this short review whenever an application or policy includes INA, Chubb or a similar name:

  1. Find the complete underwriting company name, not just the logo.
  2. Record the NAIC number if it appears in the documents.
  3. Identify the policy form number and coverage category.
  4. Confirm the state in which the policy is being issued.
  5. Check the agent's license and appointment for that legal entity and product.
  6. Read the exclusions, limitations, deductibles, benefit triggers and cancellation terms.
  7. Keep a copy of the signed application, policy and declarations.

If the legal entity on the policy differs from the company discussed during the sale, ask for a written explanation before signing. Different underwriting companies within one corporate group are common, but the consumer should know which company is responsible.

Supplemental insurance is not comprehensive medical coverage

Diagram showing Part A and Part B as Original Medicare, then the two routes: keeping Original Medicare with a Part D drug plan and optional Medigap, or taking a Medicare Advantage Part C plan that replaces A and B.
The four parts of Medicare and the two routes

Accident, hospital indemnity, critical illness and specified-disease policies generally pay benefits according to specific covered events and contract terms. They are not substitutes for major medical insurance or Medicare. A fixed-indemnity policy may pay a stated amount instead of the full provider charge. Exclusions, waiting periods and benefit limits can apply.

Likewise, home, auto, umbrella, valuables and commercial insurance protect different kinds of risks. They do not provide Medicare benefits. A policy should be evaluated for the problem it is designed to solve, not because the name of a long-established company sounds familiar.

Veterans and Insurance Company of North America INA

VA health care, TRICARE, Medicare and Medicaid are separate systems. A policy from Insurance Company of North America INA, or from Chubb, is property-and-casualty cover and does not replace any of them. Veterans should confirm Medicare choices that could affect prescriptions, non-VA care or TRICARE with the VA or TRICARE.

Caregivers helping someone compare coverage should gather the beneficiary's Medicare information, residence, providers, prescriptions, existing policies and legal authorization to act. People with Medicare and Medicaid should verify Medicaid through their state agency. These checks belong in a Medicare needs analysis, not an INA product assumption.

Medicare reference charts

One more chart that answers a question we get constantly.

2026 Medicare costs: Part A premium free with 40 quarters and a $1,736 deductible per benefit period, Part B at $202.90 a month with a $283 deductible, and Part D capped at $2,100 a year with a maximum $615 deductible.

How a licensed independent agent can help

A licensed agent can:

  • Identify the underwriting company and policy form on a proposal.
  • Check whether the agent is appointed for the legal entity and product.
  • Explain premiums, deductibles, exclusions and benefit triggers.
  • Separate supplemental insurance from major medical and Medicare coverage.
  • Compare confirmed Medicare options by ZIP code and county through authorized carriers.
  • Check doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and prescriptions for an actual Medicare plan.
  • Submit an application after the consumer decides and all required authorizations are complete.

The agent cannot turn a Chubb affiliate into a Medicare carrier, determine government-program eligibility or promise that a product will be approved. O'Neal Insurance Group should verify its INA/Chubb appointment before offering any policy issued by this entity.

Frequently asked questions about Insurance Company of North America INA

Is Insurance Company of North America still a real company?

Yes. Insurance Company of North America INA, NAIC 22713, appears in current government insurance-company records and is part of the Chubb group.

Is INA the same as Chubb?

INA is a Chubb subsidiary, while Chubb is a group and marketing name used by multiple underwriting companies. Check the policy for the actual insurer.

Can INA offer accident-and-health insurance?

Official company records show accident-and-health authority in at least some jurisdictions. That authority alone does not establish a current retail product or statewide availability.

What types of insurance does Chubb offer?

Chubb affiliates offer broad personal and commercial insurance portfolios. The exact product and underwriting company vary, so a Chubb product should not automatically be attributed to INA.

Can O'Neal Insurance Group sell INA or Chubb policies?

Only after the agency verifies the applicable license, carrier appointment, product authorization and state availability. Those items were not established by public research.

Why does the NAIC number matter?

It helps distinguish legal insurance companies with similar names and can be used in state insurance-department searches.

Can a licensed agent help me compare Medicare instead?

Yes. A properly licensed and certified Medicare agent can compare confirmed Medicare plans in your county, independent of this INA identity page.

Is there a cost to speak with O'Neal Insurance Group?

The agency offers a no-cost consultation. A conversation does not require you to apply for coverage.

What should I have ready?

Bring the proposal, policy form, declarations, full carrier name, NAIC number if shown, state of issue and your questions about coverage and exclusions.

How to compare Insurance Company of North America INA against the alternatives

No carrier is the right answer for everybody, and that includes Insurance Company of North America INA. What decides it is your own doctors, your own prescriptions and how you prefer to pay, in that order.

Start with your providers. Check every physician you want to keep against the plan directory, and confirm the medical group as well as the individual name. That single step rules Insurance Company of North America INA in or out faster than any brochure will.

Then price your prescriptions. Two plans with an identical premium can differ by thousands of dollars a year once your real drug list is run against each formulary. Ask specifically about tiers, step therapy and prior authorization.

Then look at the ceiling, not the premium. Every Medicare Advantage plan carries an annual out-of-pocket maximum; Original Medicare on its own does not. That ceiling is the real protection, and it varies by thousands of dollars between plans.

Commissions are set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and are identical across carriers for the same product line. An independent agent comparing Insurance Company of North America INA with everything else available in your county therefore has no financial reason to favor one over another.

What 2026 changes for Insurance Company of North America INA

Two federal rules apply to every Part D policy this year, Insurance Company of North America INA included, whether standalone or bundled inside a Medicare Advantage plan. No plan may charge a drug deductible above $615, and once you have spent $2,100 out of pocket on covered drugs your cost for the rest of the calendar year drops to zero.

The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread that $2,100 across monthly installments instead of facing a large bill in January. It is worth asking about if your medications are expensive early in the year.

What still changes annually is the detail: networks, formularies, copays and supplemental benefits. The Annual Notice of Change your carrier sends by September 30 is where those changes are disclosed, and it is the document to read before deciding whether to keep Insurance Company of North America INA for another year.

Enrollment windows that apply to Insurance Company of North America INA

Calendar showing the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period from 15 October to 7 December, Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment and General Enrollment from 1 January to 31 March, and the seven-month Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday.
The four Medicare enrollment windows

The windows below govern Insurance Company of North America INA exactly as they govern every other Medicare Advantage and Part D plan. They are federal, not carrier-specific, and no salesperson can extend one for you.

Initial Enrollment Period. Seven months centred on the month you turn 65 — the three months before, the birthday month itself, and the three months after. Part B and Part D late penalties are permanent, so this is the window that costs money to miss.

Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7. Open to everyone on Medicare. Whatever you choose takes effect on January 1.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, January 1 to March 31. One change only, and only if you are already enrolled in an Advantage plan.

Special Enrollment Periods. Moving out of a plan’s service area, losing employer coverage, entering or leaving a nursing home, or gaining or losing Medicaid each open a window outside the normal calendar.

Are Insurance Company of North America INA available where I live?
