Medicare guidance from O’Neal Insurance Group
Review Aetna Medicare options carefully
Use your address, prescriptions and provider needs to review any Aetna option offered for the coverage year. Availability and benefits must be confirmed for the exact plan; a carrier name alone is not a coverage guarantee.
Identify the type of coverage first
Aetna’s official Medicare site provides routes to Medicare Advantage, prescription drug, Special Needs Plan and Medicare Supplement information. Start with your ZIP code and the appropriate product. A product category shown on the national website does not confirm local availability.
Write down the full plan name, coverage year and identification number when applicable. Keep different product types separate when comparing: a Medicare Supplement policy and a Medicare Advantage plan serve different roles.
Use current Aetna documents
- Summary of Benefits and Evidence of Coverage for the exact Medicare Advantage or Part D plan.
- Provider directory for the doctors and facilities you use.
- Formulary, pharmacy information and drug coverage requirements.
- Annual Notice of Change if you already have a renewing plan.
- Policy, rate and application requirements for a Medicare Supplement option.
Ask whether a document is for your county, product and year. When preparing for 2027, do not treat a 2026 brochure or benefit advertisement as proof of 2027 coverage. If final documents are unavailable, leave those details unconfirmed.
Check doctors and medications individually
Use Aetna’s doctor, drug and pharmacy search resources and confirm important results directly with the plan and provider. Supply the exact practice address and full medication details.
Ask for a prescription estimate at your preferred pharmacy and an alternative pharmacy if useful. Save the result with the date, plan year and drug list used. Recheck if your prescriptions or the plan details change.
Planning for 2027 prescription costs
CMS lists a $700 standard Part D deductible and a $2,400 annual out-of-pocket threshold for 2027. Individual plans may have a lower deductible. These figures describe Part D, not a limit on all Medicare spending. See CMS Table V-2.
Ask for a full-year drug estimate using exact medications, doses and pharmacies. Budget separately for premiums and noncovered drugs. Confirm the published Part A and Part B amounts for the coverage year before making a budget.
Read the rules behind additional benefits
If a plan advertises dental, vision, hearing or other extras, ask for the covered services, limits, eligible providers and any qualification requirements. Do not select coverage on an allowance amount without reviewing the medical and drug coverage you expect to use.
Medicare Supplement applications have separate rules
If you are considering Medigap, confirm your enrollment rights and whether underwriting applies before changing existing coverage. Medicare explains the six-month open enrollment period and other protections. State rules may provide additional rights.
Enrollment timing
Medicare Annual Enrollment runs October 15–December 7, 2026, for January 1, 2027 coverage. Other enrollment opportunities depend on your circumstances. Check Medicare’s enrollment guidance.
Before replacing coverage, confirm your eligibility, application deadline and effective date. An enrollment opportunity does not mean every type of insurance is available without underwriting.
Get help choosing or using coverage
O’Neal Insurance Group can review represented options and help organize questions about coverage. For an existing claim, authorization, appeal or ID card, use the member service number on your insurance card and keep any notice that includes a deadline.
Do not delay an appeal while waiting for an appointment. Ask the plan to identify the applicable process and deadline in the written notice. An agent cannot promise that a claim or requested service will be approved.
