Compare Medica Medicare and Insurance Plan Options 5

This page explains how Medica Medicare insurance plans work, what to check before you enroll, and how Medica Medicare insurance plans compare with everything else available in your county. We are an independent agency, not the carrier.

Start with your location, coverage needs and permission to discuss plans

A Medica plan name on a website is only the beginning of a useful comparison. Medicare plan service areas can stop at county lines, and provider networks can differ even when neighboring counties have similar plan names. Enter your permanent residential ZIP code and confirm the county before reviewing premiums, copayments, drug coverage or extra benefits.

Working with your own personal Medicare agent broker gives you one contact who can organize the details. Before a personal Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plan discussion, the agent should complete a needs analysis and obtain the required Scope of Appointment. The needs analysis gathers practical information such as your Medicare status, preferred doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, prescriptions, budget and expected care. The Scope of Appointment records which Medicare product categories you agreed to discuss and helps the agent follow federal Medicare marketing rules. It does not obligate you to enroll.

Urban and rural access can differ, and PPO and Medicare Cost plans follow different rules. Review costs, networks, formularies and benefits every year.

Where Medica Medicare insurance plans may be offered

Official 2026 materials reviewed for this page identify these broad product footprints. These are not promises of statewide availability:

  • Medica Advantage Solution PPO: plan materials are published for Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
  • Medica Advantage Dual Solution PPO: 2026 material identifies a D-SNP in North Dakota. County service areas and Medicaid eligibility levels must be confirmed.
  • Medica Prime Solution Cost plans: plan materials are published for Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Some configurations include Part D coverage and some do not.
  • Individual, family, employer or Medicaid-related coverage: Medica participates in other health-insurance markets, but the state, product and legal entity must be verified independently.

Carrier and product availability varies by state, county, ZIP code, eligibility and plan year. Contact O'Neal Insurance Group to learn which companies and plans are currently available in your area.

Medica Advantage Solution PPO guidance

Diagram showing Part A and Part B as Original Medicare, then the two routes: keeping Original Medicare with a Part D drug plan and optional Medigap, or taking a Medicare Advantage Part C plan that replaces A and B.
The four parts of Medicare and the two routes

A PPO generally allows members to use in-network providers at the plan's preferred cost level and may cover eligible out-of-network care at a higher cost. “PPO” does not mean every doctor accepts the plan, every hospital is in network or every out-of-network service will be paid. Confirm each provider with the plan and the provider's office.

Before enrolling, compare:

  • The premium plus the Medicare Part B premium you must continue paying.
  • Deductibles, copayments, coinsurance and the in-network and combined maximum out-of-pocket limits.
  • Primary care, specialist, hospital, laboratory, imaging, rehabilitation and durable-medical-equipment access.
  • Prior authorization and referral rules for anticipated services.
  • The Part D formulary, drug tiers, utilization rules and preferred pharmacies.
  • Rules and cost sharing for out-of-network or out-of-area care.
  • Any dental, vision, hearing, fitness, transportation, over-the-counter or other supplemental benefit actually shown in the Evidence of Coverage.

Medica Prime Solution Medicare Cost plans

2026 Medicare costs: Part A premium free with 40 quarters and a $1,736 deductible per benefit period, Part B at $202.90 a month with a $283 deductible, and Part D capped at $2,100 a year with a maximum $615 deductible.
What Medicare costs in 2026

A Medicare Cost plan is not simply another name for Medicare Advantage. Members may use the plan network and may receive Medicare-covered services outside it under Original Medicare, subject to Medicare and plan rules.

Drug coverage deserves special attention. Some Prime Solution options may include Part D, while another configuration may require or permit separate prescription coverage. Do not join a separate drug plan until you understand whether that action would affect existing coverage. Review the Summary of Benefits, Evidence of Coverage and enrollment materials for the exact contract and plan.

Dual eligibility and Special Needs Plans within Medica Medicare insurance plans

Someone is dual eligible when enrolled in Medicare and also eligible for Medicaid. Medica's official 2026 materials identify a Dual Solution PPO D-SNP in North Dakota, but a person does not qualify merely because the product exists.

D-SNP enrollment depends on Medicare status, the required Medicaid category, service area and plan rules. Medicaid levels can affect costs. The plan may coordinate services, but the state administers Medicaid.

Verify Medicaid through North Dakota Health and Human Services. Social Security handles federal Extra Help applications. An agent can explain comparison steps but cannot decide eligibility.

C-SNP and I-SNP availability

A C-SNP requires an eligible chronic condition, provider confirmation and a plan offered in the county. An I-SNP requires institutional or equivalent level-of-care status. Sources reviewed do not establish a broad 2026 Medica C-SNP or I-SNP footprint, so verify current county availability.

Part D and Extra Help with Medica Medicare insurance plans

Low-Income Subsidy and Extra Help are two names for the same federal program. Eligible people may receive help with Part D premiums, deductibles and prescription cost sharing; qualification is not automatic. For any plan with drug coverage, check each medication's exact name, dose, tier, restrictions and pharmacy. O'Neal Insurance Group can help organize the application and comparison process.

Part B premium reductions, flex cards and supplemental benefits

A Part B premium reduction—sometimes called a giveback—is a plan-specific reduction in the amount a member pays toward the Medicare Part B premium. It is not cash, and it is not included with every plan.

A flex card is also plan-specific. If included, the plan decides the allowance, eligible expenses, participating retailers, frequency, rollover rules and how the card may be used. Dental, vision, hearing, fitness, transportation, over-the-counter, food, utility or other benefits may have eligibility, network or usage limits.

Part B premium reductions, flex cards, and other supplemental benefits are not included with every Medicare Advantage plan. Availability, eligibility, benefit amounts, approved expenses, and participating locations vary by plan and service area.

Veterans and Medica Medicare insurance plans

VA health care, TRICARE For Life and Medicare are separate systems. Medicare Advantage does not replace VA benefits. Confirm non-VA doctors, prescriptions, referrals, emergency care and military-benefit effects with the VA or TRICARE. People with TRICARE For Life generally need Medicare Parts A and B, subject to TRICARE rules. An agent can compare Medicare plan terms but cannot determine military-benefit eligibility.

Other Medica and non-Medicare insurance coverage

Licensed agents may compare individual/family health, life, final expense, dental, vision, critical illness, cancer/heart attack/stroke, hospital indemnity and accident insurance where available. Medica's commercial footprint must be verified separately from Medicare. Each product has its own contract, exclusions and eligibility rules; none is part of Original Medicare.

How a licensed agent narrows Medica Medicare insurance plans

Work with a Medicare health-insurance licensed agent broker serving your state who can help you:

  • Review Medicare eligibility and enrollment periods without deciding government eligibility.
  • Compare premiums and expected out-of-pocket costs.
  • Check doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and provider networks.
  • Review prescription formularies and restrictions.
  • Discuss possible Extra Help, Medicaid or Medicare Savings Program application resources.
  • Compare PPO, Cost plan and D-SNP options that are confirmed for your location.
  • Understand plan-specific benefits and limitations.
  • Submit an enrollment application after you make a decision.
  • Review separate non-Medicare insurance needs.

O'Neal Insurance Group must verify the agent's Medica appointment, license, annual certification and ready-to-sell status before presenting or enrolling a consumer in a Medica plan.

Seven steps to compare Medica Medicare insurance plans

  1. Confirm Medicare Parts A and B status and the applicable enrollment period.
  2. Confirm whether Medicaid, a Medicare Savings Program or Extra Help may apply.
  3. Enter the beneficiary's permanent residential ZIP code and county.
  4. List doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, Medicaid status, prescriptions, and VA or TRICARE use.
  5. Compare premiums, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, networks, formularies and maximum out-of-pocket limits.
  6. Check product type, eligibility requirements and plan-specific benefits.
  7. Select a plan and submit an enrollment request only after reviewing official plan documents.

Frequently asked questions about Medica Medicare insurance plans

What is the difference between a Medica PPO and a Medicare Cost plan?

An Advantage Solution PPO is a Medicare Advantage plan with network and out-of-network rules. Prime Solution is a Medicare Cost plan governed by a different contract structure, including different rules for care outside the plan network.

Does every Medica plan include prescription drug coverage?

No. Drug coverage varies by product and plan. Some Cost plan configurations may not include Part D.

Who may qualify for Medica Advantage Dual Solution?

An applicant must meet Medicare and applicable Medicaid rules, live in the service area and satisfy enrollment requirements. The 2026 material reviewed identifies North Dakota, subject to county verification.

Does Medica offer C-SNPs for diabetes or heart disease?

The sources reviewed do not support a general 2026 C-SNP claim. Conduct a current county-level plan search before relying on availability.

Is Extra Help the same as LIS?

Yes. The Low-Income Subsidy is commonly called Extra Help and may assist eligible people with Part D costs.

Does every Medica Medicare Advantage plan include a Part B giveback or flex card?

No. Either benefit must be verified in the current official documents for the exact plan and county.

Can I keep VA health care and join a Medica Medicare plan?

Some veterans maintain both, but the systems are separate. Confirm effects on care, prescriptions and military benefits with the VA or TRICARE.

Is there a cost to speak with O'Neal Insurance Group?

O'Neal Insurance Group offers a no-cost consultation. Enrollment in an insurance plan is never required merely because you speak with an agent.

What should I have ready before comparing plans?

Bring Medicare information, ZIP and county, providers, pharmacies, medications, assistance-program information and other coverage details.

Can an agent enroll me in a Medica plan?

An appropriately licensed, appointed and certified agent can submit an application after you choose. Availability and agent authorization must be verified first.

How to compare Medica Medicare insurance plans against the alternatives

No carrier is the right answer for everybody, and that includes Medica Medicare insurance plans. What decides it is your own doctors, your own prescriptions and how you prefer to pay, in that order.

Start with your providers. Check every physician you want to keep against the plan directory, and confirm the medical group as well as the individual name. That single step rules Medica Medicare insurance plans in or out faster than any brochure will.

Then price your prescriptions. Two plans with an identical premium can differ by thousands of dollars a year once your real drug list is run against each formulary. Ask specifically about tiers, step therapy and prior authorization.

Then look at the ceiling, not the premium. Every Medicare Advantage plan carries an annual out-of-pocket maximum; Original Medicare on its own does not. That ceiling is the real protection, and it varies by thousands of dollars between plans.

Commissions are set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and are identical across carriers for the same product line. An independent agent comparing Medica Medicare insurance plans with everything else available in your county therefore has no financial reason to favor one over another.

What 2026 changes for Medica Medicare insurance plans

Two federal rules apply to every Part D policy this year, Medica Medicare insurance plans included, whether standalone or bundled inside a Medicare Advantage plan. No plan may charge a drug deductible above $615, and once you have spent $2,100 out of pocket on covered drugs your cost for the rest of the calendar year drops to zero.

The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread that $2,100 across monthly installments instead of facing a large bill in January. It is worth asking about if your medications are expensive early in the year.

What still changes annually is the detail: networks, formularies, copays and supplemental benefits. The Annual Notice of Change your carrier sends by September 30 is where those changes are disclosed, and it is the document to read before deciding whether to keep Medica Medicare insurance plans for another year.

Enrollment windows that apply to Medica Medicare insurance plans

Calendar showing the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period from 15 October to 7 December, Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment and General Enrollment from 1 January to 31 March, and the seven-month Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday.
The four Medicare enrollment windows

The windows below govern Medica Medicare insurance plans exactly as they govern every other Medicare Advantage and Part D plan. They are federal, not carrier-specific, and no salesperson can extend one for you.

Initial Enrollment Period. Seven months centred on the month you turn 65 — the three months before, the birthday month itself, and the three months after. Part B and Part D late penalties are permanent, so this is the window that costs money to miss.

Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7. Open to everyone on Medicare. Whatever you choose takes effect on January 1.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, January 1 to March 31. One change only, and only if you are already enrolled in an Advantage plan.

Special Enrollment Periods. Moving out of a plan’s service area, losing employer coverage, entering or leaving a nursing home, or gaining or losing Medicaid each open a window outside the normal calendar.
