Understanding the Wellabe name
Wellabe traces its history to American Republic Insurance Company, founded in 1929. Today, Wellabe is a shared brand used across a group that includes three Medico companies, two American Republic companies and Great Western Insurance Company. The group says its six insurers are licensed collectively in 49 states and Washington, D.C., but that does not make every product available in those jurisdictions.
The policy—not the logo—identifies the company responsible for claims. Medicare Supplement and supplemental health products are often underwritten by Medico Insurance Company, Medico Corp Life Insurance Company or Medico Life and Health Insurance Company. Great Western underwrites preneed funeral products. Other products can use another Wellabe affiliate.
This distinction affects licensing, state approval, application forms and agent appointment. Ask for the complete underwriting company name before applying.
Four clear answers
Wellabe's verified Medicare product is Medigap. Current evidence does not establish Wellabe Medicare Advantage, stand-alone Part D, D-SNP, C-SNP or I-SNP plans.
Wellabe is a brand and corporate family. The exact Medico, American Republic or Great Western company shown in the policy carries the contractual obligation.
Supplemental policies are limited coverage. Hospital indemnity, critical illness, cancer and short-term care policies pay under defined triggers and are not substitutes for comprehensive health coverage.
State availability differs by product. A state with Wellabe dental or hospital indemnity coverage may not have the same Medigap plan letters or underwriting entity.

How Wellabe Medicare Supplement works
Original Medicare is administered by the federal government. Part A helps cover inpatient hospital care, and Part B helps cover outpatient and medical services. A Wellabe Medicare Supplement policy works alongside Original Medicare and may pay some Medicare-approved deductibles, copayments or coinsurance according to the standardized plan selected.
Wellabe's current guide identifies Plans A, F, high-deductible F, G, high-deductible G and N in many states. New Jersey also lists Plans C and D, Pennsylvania lists Plan B, and Wisconsin uses its own standardized structure. Not every letter is available in every state. People first eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020 generally cannot buy plans that cover the Part B deductible, including Plans C and F.
Medigap usually lets the policyholder use providers nationwide that accept Medicare. That is different from joining an HMO or PPO network. Modern Medigap policies do not include outpatient Part D drug coverage, so a beneficiary may compare a separate Medicare prescription drug plan.
The six-month federal Medigap open enrollment period begins when a person is age 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. Outside open enrollment or another guaranteed-issue right, medical underwriting may apply in many states. State laws may add birthday, anniversary or continuous enrollment protections.
| Coverage | How it works | Provider access | Prescriptions | Additional benefits | Eligibility | Key limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original Medicare | Federal Parts A and B | Providers accepting Medicare | Separate PDP may be added | No routine MA extras | Medicare entitlement | No annual Part A/B out-of-pocket maximum |
| Original Medicare + Wellabe Medigap | Medicare pays first; policy helps with standardized cost sharing | Generally any Medicare-participating provider | Separate Part D needed | Optional state-approved rider may exist | Medicare, state issue and underwriting rules | Premium, letter and underwriter vary |
| Medicare Advantage from another carrier | Private Part C alternative | HMO/PPO/service-area rules | Often included | Plan-specific extras may apply | Medicare plus service-area residence | Medigap cannot pay MA copays |
| Wellabe supplemental policy | Pays under defined policy triggers | Depends on product; not an MA network | Not Part D | Only contract-specified benefits | Application and underwriting rules | Limited benefits; exclusions and caps apply |
Extra Help, Medicaid and Special Needs Plans
Wellabe does not have a documented Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan portfolio. D-SNP, C-SNP and I-SNP rules therefore should not be advertised as Wellabe product features. A beneficiary interested in those plans must compare Medicare-approved carriers serving the permanent address.
Low-Income Subsidy and Extra Help are two names for the same federal Part D assistance program. Eligible people may receive help with Part D premiums, deductibles and prescription cost sharing. Medicare Savings Programs are administered by states and may help with certain Medicare costs. Neither program is a Wellabe insurance benefit, and the government decides eligibility.
No Part B giveback or flex-card claim
Part B premium reductions and Medicare Advantage flex cards are Part C plan features. They are not documented Wellabe Medigap benefits. An optional dental rider attached to a Medigap policy is also not a Medicare Advantage flex card and must be described under its own state-approved terms.
Hospital indemnity payments are policy benefits triggered by covered events. They are not Medicare rebates or comprehensive reimbursement of medical bills.
Supplemental and life-related coverage
Dental insurance can help with preventive, basic or major services under the chosen policy. Review deductibles, annual maximums, waiting periods and network discounts.
Hospital indemnity insurance pays a limited amount under covered hospital or service triggers. Wellabe prominently states that it is fixed indemnity coverage, not comprehensive health insurance.
Critical illness and first-diagnosis cancer insurance pay when a diagnosis meets the policy definition. Compare waiting periods, pre-existing-condition limits, recurrence rules and lifetime maximums.
Short-term care insurance can help with covered home or facility care for a limited duration. It is not short-term major medical insurance and does not replace long-term care insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.
Preneed funeral and final expense coverage can help fund end-of-life arrangements under a life insurance or funeral contract. Review ownership, beneficiary, assignment, cancellation and state guaranty-association language.
Veterans and military families
VA health care, TRICARE and Medicare are separate. A Wellabe Medigap policy does not replace VA benefits, and it does not provide VA enrollment. Veterans should review non-VA providers, emergency care, prescriptions and whether separate Part D is useful alongside creditable military drug coverage.
People with TRICARE for Life should confirm whether Medigap would duplicate coordination they already receive. Contact TRICARE or the VA before making a decision that could affect military benefits.
How O'Neal Insurance Group can help
A licensed O'Neal Insurance Group agent can help you compare insurance companies and products currently available in your state and ZIP code. The review can cover Medigap letters, premiums, rate methods, underwriting, Part D options and separate supplemental policies.
Public research did not verify the agency's appointment with every Wellabe affiliate. Confirm James O'Neal's license, appointment and product authority for the exact Medico, American Republic or Great Western company before using carrier-authorized language or submitting an application. The insurer decides underwriting; government agencies decide program eligibility.

- Identify VA, TRICARE, employer, retiree or other current coverage.
