Medicare plans Summerlin residents can compare side by side
Medicare plans Summerlin beneficiaries qualify for are approved at the Clark County level, so the list is identical across the valley. What sets Summerlin apart is who lives here: a large share of active retirees in age-restricted communities, many of whom travel for months at a time. That changes which structure fits, and this page explains why.
How Medicare plans Summerlin offers are determined
Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved and priced county by county. Summerlin is part of Clark County, so the plan list matches Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas exactly.
The city or master-planned community you live in does not change your options. The county does.
What changes locally is convenience and network fit. A plan built around east-valley or south-valley medical groups is awkward if your physician practices near Summerlin Parkway or off Town Center Drive.
So the real question is not which Medicare plans Summerlin has. It is which of those plans keeps the doctors you already see.
If you travel, this is the decision that matters most
Summerlin has a high concentration of active retirees, including age-restricted communities such as Sun City Summerlin. Many residents spend weeks or months a year away from Nevada, visiting family or escaping the summer heat.
That single fact often decides which of the Medicare plans Summerlin offers will fit, because the two paths behave very differently away from home.
Medicare Advantage away from Clark County
Medicare Advantage plans are built on local networks. Outside the service area, routine and specialist care is generally not covered, though emergency and urgent care are covered anywhere in the country.
If you spend four months a year in another state and see a doctor there for anything routine, a network plan can become expensive or simply unusable.
Original Medicare with Medigap away from home
Original Medicare works with any provider nationwide who accepts Medicare, and a Medigap policy follows it. There is no network and no service area, so care in another state is handled the same way as care at home.
Some Medigap plans also include a limited foreign travel emergency benefit, which Original Medicare alone does not provide.
For a genuine snowbird, this difference usually outweighs every extra benefit on the Medicare Advantage side. For someone who rarely leaves the valley, it may not matter at all.
The Nevada birthday rule

Nevada gives Medigap policyholders an annual opportunity that most states do not.
Under Assembly Bill 250, effective January 1, 2022, you get a 60-day window beginning the first day of your birth month to move to another Medigap policy with the same or a lower level of benefits, without medical underwriting.
- The window runs 60 days, longer than most states with a birthday rule
- It begins the first day of your birth month, not on your birthday
- You may switch to a different insurance company, not only a different plan
- No health questions and no underwriting during the window
Because Medigap premiums tend to rise with age, this window is the practical way to keep the same coverage at a better rate. It is especially relevant in Summerlin, where Medigap take-up runs higher than the valley average.
The two structures, briefly
Settle this before comparing individual Medicare plans Summerlin has on offer. Nearly everything else follows from it.
Medicare Advantage
One plan delivers your benefits, usually with drug coverage included, plus a network, an annual out-of-pocket cap, and extra benefits such as dental and vision.
How Medicare Advantage works →Original Medicare with Medigap
Nationwide provider freedom and predictable cost sharing, paired with a separate Part D plan. Higher monthly premium, far fewer surprises.
How Medigap works →What Medicare costs in Clark County

Everyone on Medicare pays a Part B premium, set federally rather than locally. The current standard figure, and the higher income-related amounts, are published at Medicare.gov.
Everything layered on top varies: the plan premium if there is one, copays, deductibles, and the annual maximum out-of-pocket.
Many of the Medicare plans Summerlin residents see carry a low or zero monthly premium. That does not make them free. The cost appears as copays when you use care, which is why the out-of-pocket maximum is the figure worth comparing.
With Original Medicare and a Medigap policy the arrangement inverts. You pay a higher predictable premium and much less at the point of care. Neither is cheaper in the abstract; it depends on how much care you expect to use and how much predictability you want.
Higher-income households should also be aware of IRMAA, the income-related monthly adjustment that raises Part B and Part D premiums above certain thresholds, based on your tax return from two years earlier.
Prescription coverage
Prescriptions run through Part D, either built into a Medicare Advantage plan or as a standalone policy alongside Medigap.
Each Part D plan has its own formulary, tier structure, and pharmacy network. The same drug can sit on different tiers in two plans sold on the same street.
If you take brand-name medication, the formulary matters far more than the premium. A plan a few dollars cheaper each month can cost hundreds more a year on one prescription.
Our Part D page explains the coverage stages. Extra Help for people with limited income is available through the Social Security Administration.

How to compare the Medicare plans Summerlin has available
Work in this order. The first two steps settle most of the decision.
- List every doctor and specialist you intend to keep, and confirm each is in network for the coming plan year
- List every prescription with its exact dose, and check each against the plan formulary and tier
- If you travel, decide how much of the year you are away and whether network care matters where you go
- Compare copays for the services you use and the annual maximum out-of-pocket
- Only then weigh extra benefits such as dental, vision, hearing and over-the-counter allowances

Ask before you decide
Questions about Medicare plans Summerlin residents ask
Are the plans different from Las Vegas or Henderson?
No. Summerlin is in Clark County, so the plan list is the same across the valley. What differs is which providers are near you and whether they are in a given network.
I spend winters out of state. Which structure fits?
Original Medicare with a Medigap policy usually travels better, because there is no network or service area. Medicare Advantage covers emergency and urgent care anywhere, but routine care outside the service area generally is not covered.
What is the Nevada birthday rule?
A 60-day window starting the first day of your birth month to move to a Medigap policy with the same or lesser benefits, without underwriting. Nevada allows a change of carrier.
Is Medigap worth the higher premium?
It depends on how much care you use, how much you travel, and how much predictability is worth to you. We can run both scenarios against your actual doctors and prescriptions.
Does your help cost anything?
No additional fee is charged to you for O'Neal Insurance Group's guidance. Agents may be compensated by an insurance carrier when an enrollment occurs.

One county menu, and why the network question decides it
Summerlin draws from the Clark County plan list, the same list as the rest of the valley. CMS counted 426,638 Medicare beneficiaries in the county in May 2026, with 241,971 — about 56.7 percent — in a private plan against 51.2 percent nationally.
So the menu is not what makes your decision different from a neighbor’s three miles away. The network is. For a majority of people here, a network stands between them and their consultant, and which network that is matters more than any premium on the page.
HMO, PPO, and the middle ground
An HMO covers routine care only from contracted providers, usually asks you to name a primary care physician, and may require a referral before a specialist visit is paid. Emergency and urgent care are covered anywhere in the country; a planned appointment outside the network generally is not covered at all.
A PPO pays outside the network at a higher share of cost and usually does not require referrals. Some HMOs add a point-of-service benefit covering particular services out of network.
The caps differ accordingly. For 2026 the in-network limit on Medicare Advantage cost sharing is $9,250, while a PPO’s combined in and out-of-network maximum can reach $13,900. Read both figures. A plan quoting the lower one may simply not pay outside its own network.
Check the doctor, not the building
Across the Medicare plans Summerlin carriers file, each one contracts separately with a hospital, with the physicians it employs, with independent groups practising inside it, and with its outpatient, imaging and surgical sites. Any of those can be in network while another is not.
The specialties you never choose are the ones to ask about: anaesthesia, radiology, pathology and hospitalist services. You do not select those doctors, and their contract status can decide what an admission costs you.
Prior authorization deserves the same scrutiny. Advanced imaging, infusions, surgery and post-acute stays commonly require it, and the rules vary between the Medicare plans Summerlin carriers file even where the networks look alike. Ask how a refusal is appealed and how long a decision takes — fourteen days as standard, seventy-two hours when expedited.
If a provider leaves the network mid-year, continuity-of-care provisions may keep an active course of treatment covered at in-network rates for a limited period. Worth knowing, and not a substitute for choosing correctly, because a provider leaving is not by itself a Special Enrollment Period.
The route with no network at all
Original Medicare with a supplement takes the whole question off the table, since any provider accepting Medicare assignment is covered anywhere in the United States. Around 184,667 Clark County beneficiaries are still on that route.
For a household whose care is spread across the valley, or who spend months of the year in another state, that portability is the substantive argument. It belongs in the comparison alongside the Medicare plans Summerlin carriers advertise most heavily, not after them.
Whichever way you lean, name every provider you use and have each one checked against the current directory before enrolling. Directories are updated on the carrier’s schedule rather than the practice’s, so where a listing and a receptionist disagree, trust the receptionist and get the carrier to confirm in writing.
That one exercise narrows the Medicare plans Summerlin offers faster and more reliably than any premium table, and it takes an afternoon.
Getting the shortlist down to two
A county this size produces a long list, and the order you work through it decides how long the job takes.
Start with the providers. Write down every doctor, hospital and imaging center you actually use, then have each checked. Most of the Medicare plans Summerlin carriers file will fall away at this step without you reading a single benefit summary.
Then the drug list. Check whether each medication is on the formulary at all, which tier it sits on, whether it carries prior authorization or a quantity limit, and which pharmacies near you are preferred rather than merely in network. A plan with the lowest premium and the wrong tier for one medication is the expensive choice.
Then the caps. Compare the in-network out-of-pocket maximum across whichever of the Medicare plans Summerlin offers have survived, and for a PPO the combined figure as well.
Only then look at the extras. Dental allowances and over-the-counter cards are real money, but they are worth a few hundred dollars a year against caps measured in thousands, and they are the loudest part of the marketing for exactly that reason.
Work in that order and the Medicare plans Summerlin offers reduce to two or three you can genuinely compare. Work in reverse and you will spend a fortnight on brochures.
Bring the provider list, the medications with doses, and your Medicare card. There is no fee for the review, and we will say plainly if the Medicare plans Summerlin residents are being shown do not improve on what you already hold.
